Main Stage Sunday – Simon Kinny-Lewis
SIMON KINNY-LEWIS is one of the new breed of blues guitarists making his mark worldwide. He takes the audience with him on a seismic journey of compelling blues guitar – along with a voice that Steve Lukather (guitarist Toto, Michael Jackson, Ringo Starr) describes as being similar to American blues star Joe Bonnamassa.
Simon’s own original brand of contemporary blues and rock has created a loyal fan-base of guitar enthusiasts around the globe. He has performed and recorded with highly regarded musicians such as Chris Cain, Anton Davidyants, Nate Ginsberg (Herbie Hancock’s Monster Band), Christian Howes, Dwayne Pate (Robben Ford Band), Simeon Cain (Henry Rollins Band) and many more.
He has produced six albums to date with his most recent “Catfish” reaching #1 on the Australian Blues and Roots Airplay Charts. The new album “Bad Whiskey” is destined to follow “Catfish” to the top spot and is due for release late Sept 2018. (Brett Garsed – guitar, John Farnham Band makes a special guest appearance on two tracks.)
Simon’s incredible band is comprised of Tony Boyd (drums), Shannon Stitt (Hammond keys) and Rob Ewan (bass). Together they are a formidable musical combination and have been turning heads at numerous festivals including Thredbo Blues Fest, The Australian Blues Music Festival, Gympie Muster, Manly Jazz Fest, Tamworth Country Music Festival, Blues at The Briars, Kiama Jazz & Blues Festival, and Bluestone Blues Fest.
2017 ended on a high note with a string of shows in California at the express invitation of US Blues legend Chris Cain. June 2018 saw the band return to the Golden State for more shows, a recording session in San Jose, plus an appearance at The 20th Julian Blues Festival, near San Diego.
Steve Luthaker (guitarist for Toto rates “Street Blues”) “Your voice has a little Bonnamassa in it…which is cool. Love the tune too. KILLER solo!”
Simon Cotsworth – Producer/Engineer (Seal, Santana, Benson, Ritenour and Simon Kinny-Lewis) “What I look for is timing and performance..and Simon is top on both of those.”
T.J. Helmerich – producer/engineer for artists Steve Vai, Victor Wooten, and Tribal Tech says this about Simon’s 2015 release “Strat Attack”…“Simon’s releases never cease to amaze me! This one is my favourite I think… love the writing, and the players. Simon’s guitar talents truly shine on this, as he effortlessly navigates through tricky progressions with fire, grace and taste!”
Vicente Zúmel – “La Hora del Blues” (Barcelona) “Simon appears as a good poet and storyteller, but also as an excellent composer, an impressive singer and a first class guitar player”.
Marianne Adoradio, Silicon Valley Blues Society CA – “We loved you at all the venues around the Bay Area. Really awesome. See you next year!”
