BEX MARSHALL HEADLINES TUMBAFEST 2019 SUNDAY LINE UP
Tumbafest 2019 is thrilled to announce UK British Blues Award winner Bex Marshall as the headline performer for Sunday’s line-up.
Bex Marshall’s unique style of playing guitar is a combined technique of slide, blues rock, ragtime and roots pickin’. Her voice is a grainy and powerful melting pot of old souls, in a cross between Bonnie Raitt, Janis Joplin, Beth Hart and Zora Young, while her lyrics mix prose with poetry.
Bex Marshall is known and respected throughout the music industry, she has been accepted into the USA blues family and has played and recorded in Clarksville USA. She pushes the boundaries of blues, her songs have been called timeless, and will be performing at Tumbafest as a three piece. Bex is literally a musical tornado.
Bex picked up the UK Blues Award in 2013 for Best Female Blues Artist and Best Blues Album of the year. She has also been nominated for best solo acoustic artist four years running 2015/16/17 and now in 2018!
Born in Devon and now based in London, Bex was the product of two very different families, one blue blooded landed gentry, the other Irish Romany. As a child at family gatherings her uncles would always play and stand her on the table to sing. At 11 years old she was given a 1963 Gibson Hummingbird by her Uncle David (The Marauders) and started playing. From there she was hooked on instrumentals and classical guitar standards which stretched her fingers and gave her a great basis for her own music to develop, flamenco, ragtime, country chicken pickin’, rock and on to blues and roots where she is now in her element.
Bex was asked to be the guest JANIS (‘Joplin’) by Big Brother and the Holding Company’s original guitarist Sam Andrews on their 2014 European Tour with all original members. She also sang with Darby Slick as the voice of Grace Slick (Jefferson Airplane) on her last US tour this year.
Bex has toured USA 6 times to date and has played The London Fleadh Festival alongside the likes of Bob Dylan, Robert Plant and Sheryl Crow & has performed several times at the legendary Glastonbury Festival. Bex recently headlined Upton Blues Festival in UK and Bliuzo Naktsys Festival in Lithuania and October 2018 sees her performing in Cyprus then onto Brazil Nov/Dec before heading back to UK then to Oz.
Event organisers are delighted to have Bex headline the Sunday main stage line-up.
See Bex Marshall on the Bendigo Bank Main Stage at 2:30pm on Sunday 24 February.
